The Florida Marlins, who have won two World Series titles in their short history, have officially decided to revamp their franchise to be more competitive in the future. Now, there are no more Florida Marlins. Beginning this offseason, the team is known as the Miami Marlins.
Fresh with a new logo, a new set of uniforms, and a brand new stadium, the Miami Marlins are hoping to assemble a team that would give them a good chance at getting World Series title number three.
Step one for the Marlins is trying to secure the biggest free agent in sports today, the three time National League MVP, Albert Pujols. The Marlins have historically not spent too much money on player salaries and have been known to trade away players with high salaries after winning both of their titles in 1997 and 2003.
But now, they have offered Pujols a contract. Though details have not been made public, based on what Pujols wanted from St. Louis, it can be certain that this is not a cheap offer.
The Marlins have also extended contract offers to the National League Batting Champion Jose Reyes and superstar pitcher Mark Buehrle.
Add all that to new manager Ozzie Guillen and it is clear that the Miami Marlins are serious about winning.
