San Francisco (Obama.net)– The highly anticipated talks between the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu took place Tuesday. In addition to the discussion over relations between the United States and Israel, the topics of relations between Israel and Palestine, as well as the consequences for the nation of Iran for their defiance in nuclear weaponry.
With recent events leading many to believe that the United States and Israel have strains in their relationship, President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu made a point to dispel any and all rumors of the sort. After meeting for over sixty minutes in the White House, the two leaders addressed the media and posed for photographs as well.
Obama made it clear that the United States supports Israel today just as it has since 1948. Obama said that the United States of America is still “unwavering in out commitment to Israel’s security.” Netanyahu added on to Obama’s words by saying that the rumors of problems in the relations between the United States and Israel “aren’t just premature, they’re just flat wrong.”
The central focus of the meeting was the prospective peace talks between Israel and Palestine. After their meeting, Netanyahu said in no uncertain terms that he is welcome to speaking directly to Palestinian leaders to formulate a solid peace agreement that would leave both nations pleased. Netanyahu said, “The President and I discussed concrete steps that could be done now in the coming days, in the coming weeks to move the peace process further along in a very robust way.”
As for the current tensions in the Gaza region of the Middle East, President Obama said that he hopes to “ensure the people of Gaza are able to prosper economically while Israel is able to maintain its legitimate security needs in not allowing missiles and weapons to get to Hamas.”
Furthermore, Netanyahu expressed his approval of the United Nations and the United States sanctions on Iran in order to dissuade the state from continuing its nuclear programs and projects. The Prime Minister alluded to the sanctions be strong enough to really make Iran realize that their actions will no longer be tolerated in the free world. He added, “if other nations adopted similar sanctions, that would increase the effect.”
After the important meeting, it is clear that both the United States of America and Israel are on the same page and that President Barack Obama is doing all that he can to make sure that Israel and Palestine end up on the same page as well at the end of the day.
With more of the hard pressing work of President Obama, the potential of a successful peace treaty between Israel and Palestine seems more and more likely with each passing day.
