This holiday season had an additional present for Playboy founder Hugh Hefner who recent got engaged to Playboy playmate Crystal Harris. Hefner, 84, first announced the news via Twitter on Sunday when he wrote, “When I gave Crystal the ring, she burst into tears. This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory…I got what I was hoping for for Christmas…Crystal’s love.”
This will be the third marriage for the world’s most famous bachelor. Hefner married his first wife, Mildred, back in 1949 and had two children before divorcing in 1959. Thirty years later Hefner married his second wife, Playmate of the Year Kimberly Conrad, in 1989. The two went on to have two children of their own who are now 10 and 9 years old. Hefner and Conrad’s recent divorce was finalized last year, allowing Hugh to propose to Harris the day after Christmas. With Hefner being continuously involved romantically with the models of his world famous magazine, this recent announcement of another engagement to a playmate does not come as a real surprise.
Hef, as the magazine mogul is commonly referred to, has been a longtime activist of freedom and civil rights. Having published stories challenging McCarthyism and the Vietnam War and even backing gay rights issues and the legalization of Marijuana, Playboy Magazine has become more than just a pornographic publication. Getting its start way back in 1953, Hefner put together the first issue of Playboy on his kitchen table before selling 51,000 copies. Those sold copies would soon launch a multimillion dollar international corporation and brand.
No date has been set for the big day between the two lovers, but you can certainly expect an extravagant wedding with all the extras as Hef is known to throw a wild party or two at the Playboy Mansion. What this means for the future of the mansion or the harem of attractive females usually surrounding Hef, we do not know.
