Shelley Malil, an actor who played a role in the hit movie The 40-Year Old Virgin, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for stabbing his ex-girlfriend over 20 times in August of 2008.  Malil, who is just 45 years old, was convicted by a jury of premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon back in October.  Judge Harry Elias gave him the maximum sentence, but Malil will be eligible for parole in about 9 to 10 years.

Malil committed the crimes when he encountered his girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, socializing with another man in her San Diego County home.  The police report states that after seeing Beebe drinking wine with another man Malil became so enraged that he started stabbing the woman over 20 times.  Malil said that he felt threatened by the other man and thought he was going to kill him.

Malil did show remorse for his actions at his sentencing on Thursday saying, “I am at a loss for words right now. I failed miserably, not only as a human being but as a father, son, uncle, brother, friend. What I did to Kendra, I don’t have the words to express my remorse.”  Unfortunately that remorse is not going to stop him from going to jail for a long time.

Malil is just another Hollywood actor in an ever growing line that continues to have run-ins with the law.  It can be pretty shocking when you hear about these celebrities and their run ins with the law because we usually forget that they are normal people like ourselves.  Just because someone is in a movie does not mean that they can become jealous or make poor decisions in their lives.  This incident between Malil and his ex-girlfriend Beebe is another reminded that Hollywood actors are normal people like ourselves that can make poor decisions and have to live with the consequences of those decisions.
