Obama Sees Oil Spill as Sign to Improve Energy

San Francisco (Obama.net)-

For decades America has been concerned with energy. The call for finding alternative fuels to use instead of fossil fuels is not a new one among Americans. Since the days that former President Jimmy Carter first suggested that the United States should limit its dependence on foreign oil, attempts to find new sources of fuel have topped the agendas of scientists and government officials alike.

Now, with the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the high amount of oil and thus money lost, President Barack Obama is reiterating his previous plans to employ alternative energy. Obama said the spill is a clear sign that the United States needs to distance itself from being dependent on fossil fuels.

During his speech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Obama said, “we have to acknowledge that there are inherent risks to drilling four miles beneath the surface of the Earth.” Obama further stated that as fuel reserves continue to be used up and the less oil that is made available for consumption, the higher the risks of drilling for that oil will become.

Obama told his audience “that an America run solely on fossil fuels should not be the vision we have for out children.” Obama emphasized that it is finally time for the United States to come to terms with and “fully embrace a clean energy future.” The president made it clear that by using reserves for natural gas and increasing the amount of nuclear power plants, everything in America will become more efficient from “homes to businesses to out cars and trucks.”

President Obama’s speech, held at Carnegie Mellon University, was mainly concerned with the current state of affairs of the American economy. Obama and his administration planned to make 2010 a year that saw jobs created at a high rate However, with the oil spill and other incidents that were unforeseen at the start of the year, the plans that the Obama Administration originally had have been deterred from the Administration’s central focus.

However, the efforts of Obama and his cabinet are still in high gear to provide jobs and clean energy to the people of America. Obama is using his resources to fix the issues in the Gulf of Mexico and to give the American people a president that they can count on. Obama’s plans have slowly been positively affecting America and in the coming months, progressions will be seen that will further decrease any doubts some may be feeling.
