Get College Grants for Women – How Do Women Really Get College Grants?

Women have come a long way in recent years in terms of equality especially in the form of higher education. With more and more women attending college there has been an increase in the number of college grants for women. Women can find college grants in numerous ways, but the most popular are via women’s colleges and public and private organizations.

Women’s colleges can be a great source of college grants. These particular institutions are constantly looking to attract the best and brightest women scholars, and do so by offering free college grant money. Two of the larger women’s colleges in the United States are Spelman College and Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia. Both of these schools have college grants for women that they extend to incoming students based on merit, need or course of study.

Some of the more popular college grants for women originate from public and private organizations. These organizations are created in an effort to help support the interests of a specific industry or field of study. For example, female students who are interested in math, science, engineering, technology, law, business and medicine will find that many professional associations and organizations actively encouraging female students to study these various fields by offering college grants. A few examples of these college grants for women include:

  • The Barry Goldwater Scholarship Grant is available to sophomores and juniors pursuing majors in the sciences or mathematics. Above average GPA is expected and preference is given to those expecting to continue on into graduate programs in a related field.
  • Women in Engineering and Computer and Information Science Awards are made available through the National Science Foundation. These graduate fellowships are provided for women studying in a program in math, science, engineering, or computer science.

If you are a woman looking for a college grant there are many different options available. One would be to consider attending a women’s college in order to take advantage of the various college grants that they offer. Another option would be to seek out private and public organizations that have a vested interest in nurturing the educational needs of women in a various field of study.  Besides that women are obviously entitled to apply for all non-gender specific grants that men are eligible for also.
