Private and foundation grants consist of any non-governmental, non-profit organization, that has a fund used to provide for the public. Typically a foundation will award money to non-profit organizations itself. Foundations vary in their goals and interests, which are reflected by the organizations and people that receive their endowment. Foundation and private grants also vary in their qualifications depending on the organization.
Typically foundation and private grants offer their money for the following purposes:
- Building funds
- Operating support
- Purchasing equipment
- Seeding money
- Supporting children
- Supporting minorities
- Helping the elderly
- Aiding the homeless
- Supporting types of organizations such as libraries, universities, hospitals, boys and girls clubs
- Supporting certain geographic locations such as cities, states, countries, and regions
