President Barack Obama has addressed the recent violence and misdeeds in Iran. Obama has requested that the brutality and unjustness towards the citizens in Iran by the Iranian government come to immediate end.
Obama has stated that “The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching.” Obama went on to add, “We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people.”
The violence in the Middle Eastern nation is stemming from the protests against the June 12th Iranian election. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was proclaimed the winner of the Presidential election by a landslide. However, those opposing him have suggested that the election was fixed so that Ahmadinejad would come out as the victor.
Thousands of outraged Iranians took the streets on Saturday despite the warning by the government. Any and all protests were forbidden by the government and the Iranian police were ready to take action with tear gas, water cannons, and clubs.
Obama criticized the actions of the Iranian government by stating that while Iran wants to be respected in the international community, they must first handle their internal issues with respect to their citizens and in a more dignified fashion.
Obama stated that the people of Iran want equality and respect and that the international community believes that in time justice will come to the people of Iran.
Obama has previously stated that “suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away.” And that is believed to be the case in Iran today. The government is trying to eliminate all opposition, but in reality is only delaying the resolutions that must come in due time.
