In the modern era of the National Football League, the first game of the season is played on a Thursday. This year, two recent Super Bowl Champions squared off to start the year right.
The reigning champions, the Green Bay Packers, welcomed the New Orleans Saints into Lambeau Field.
The battle of the quarterbacks got off to a quick start, with Green Bay, led by Aaron Rodgers, taking the early lead. Drew Brees would lead the Saints to comeback and nearly tie the game.
With the Packers leading 42 to 34 with seconds to go, Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram was stopped on the one-yard line as time ran out.
Even though Brees threw over four hundred yards, it was Rodgers who finished on top with a higher completion percentage. Each of the two had three touchdowns.
In other football news, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning underwent more surgery on his neck. There is no timetable set for the legendary quarterback’s return, but many are worried that he may not return this season at all. Others are concerned that we may have already seen the last of Peyton Manning in the NFL.
