Kirk Cameron, famous for playing Mike Seaver on the popular 80’s show Growing Pains, is now in trouble with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
GLAAD is upset with Cameron for his comments that he made on CNN recently. Cameron was asked if he believed homosexuality was sinful. Cameron responded, “I think that it’s unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
Cameron went on to say that marriage is one of the oldest creations and has been defined since the days of Adam and Eve. “One man, one woman for life till death do you part,” says Cameron. He added that he “would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”
GLAAD lashed back at Cameron saying that he was out of date with the times. The group said that extending marriage to same sex couples is not redefining marriage. They took the stance that marriage was about two people who were committed to each other, not a religious idea.
Cameron, who is an evangelical Christian, is strong on his stance and his beliefs and it is doubtful that he is rethinking his views. And even though there is an obvious shift in America to accepting same sex marriage, that doesn’t mean Cameron must change his mind. He is as entitled to his opinion on same sex marriage as the members of GLAAD are in holding their views.
