Average College Tuition Prices – Four Year Colleges and Community Colleges

With college tuition costs all over the board we decided to do some research and find some typical university and college tuition rates for the 2009 – 2010 school year. We found that 53% of students attend schools where their total annual fees are under $9000.  This includes community colleges as well.

Another important factor to remember is that many students receive college grants which are not included in average tuition data.

In 2009 – 2010 school year, 20% of students attended colleges paying more than $36,000 annual tuition and fees. 32% of full time students paid university fees of $3000 – 6000. And 19% attended private universities paying fees below $18,000.

  • On average, four year private universities charge $26,273 for tuition and fees which is up 4.4% from 2008-2009 school year.
  • Public four year university average tuition was $7,020 which is up 6.5% from last year.

Community College Average Tuition

Public community colleges (two year schools) cost an average tuition price of $2,544, with 31% of full time students in the U.S. attending public two year schools.
