The entertainment world is full of court cases and legal battles. From child custody cases to fights over money and from battles over contract disputes to problems with taxes, the entertainers of the world find themselves in courtrooms across the United States of America a little too often.
However, there are some times that the cases get a little too serious, such as the trial of Orenthal James Simpson for murder in the early 1990’s.
A similar case to the one that has plagued OJ Simpson for his entire life has been relived by Shelley Malil.
Malil, who is best known for having a role in the Steve Carrell film “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” recently stood trial after he stabbed his girlfriend.
Malil stabbed his girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, over twenty times on August 10th, 2008. The two began dating in 2007 in a relationship that Beebe called “volatile.” Beebe also called Malil a jealous and possessive person.
At the end of the trial that lasted three weeks, Malil was convicted on the charge of attempted murder.
He had stabbed Beebe in San Marcos, California after she came after him with the lights off and he mistook her for an intruder in the night, according to Malil.
The prosecution in the case claim that Malil attacked Beebe after he saw her at her home with David Maldonado. He then attacked her with the use of a steak knife.
Malil’s attorney said that because Malil was acting in the moment, he should not be convicted of attempted murder since it was not thought out. He said he should instead be accused of only attempted voluntary manslaughter.
Reports say that Beebe wept openly when the jury of 7 men and 5 women in the San Diego Superior Court gave in the verdict.
The sentencing for the Malil is set for November 18th. He is looking at anywhere from a staggering twenty-one years in prison, to the possibility of having to spend the rest of his life in jail because of the one incident at his girlfriends home in the heat of the moment.
“….staggering twenty-one years in prison, to ..having to spend the rest of his life in jail because of the one incident at his girlfriends home in the heat of the moment.”
Really? All because of “one incident” in the “heat of the moment”? Are you serious? He stabbed her TWENTY times. That’s not “one” incident. That’s 20 incidents. Every one of them wrong, malicious, deadly and abusive.
A “staggering” 21 years in prison…..No, what’s staggering is your attitude of astonishment that 21 years in prison is the penalty for trying to kill another person. Why don’t we ask his victim or her parents if 21 years is “staggering”.
Idiot.
leave that poor man alone. this was just an accident!
