It feels like it was just yesterday that Chris Brown was first being exposed on the international stage as a sixteen-year-old hip-hop and R&B sensation. With hit singles such as “Run It” and “Yo” coming from his debut album, whispers arose about the young superstar showing signs of being the next big thing in the music industry.
As he progressed as an artist, his skill grew and people spoke highly of the similarities he has with people like the King of Music Michael Jackson and other top artists.
His fame kept growing, his skill set kept improving, his music kept getting better, and then Chris Brown’s career hit a wall.
The night Chris Brown and Rihanna allegedly got into a dispute, Brown found himself in big trouble. Brown was accused of assaulting Rihanna, allegedly repeatedly hitting her. His reputation took an even larger beating.
As a result, thousands boycotted his music and refused to buy or even play his albums. Walmart even kept his music off of their shelves as a way to protest the accused woman beater.
Brown was also served with a restraining order to keep away from his former girlfriend.
Now that restraining order is up. Brown and Rihanna, whose fame rose rapidly since the incident due to fans supporting her as she was the victim in the assault, no longer have to keep their distance.
Brown says he is past the drama. He said, “People are always gonna talk, but I’m in a positive place. I consider myself a grown-ass man. At the end of the day, if I walk around apologizing to everybody, I’m gonna look like a damn fool.”
Chris Brown still has to finish his five years of probation and over 1,400 hours of community service.
The hip-hop star did not fail to mention how many people turned their backs on him in the days following the incident.
He said, “You can’t blame people for how they want to be portrayed or if they don’t want to be associated with somebody who had a particular mishap. The last two years, everybody dissed me.”
Brown did acknowledge those who did not leave his side, especially his fans.
He says that he is now in a better place mentally and emotionally and refuses to live in the past.
Currently, Brown’s new single “Look At Me Now,” which featured Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne, is a top hit throughout the United States and Brown is no longer being boycotted and ignored by music fans as he was just one year ago.
