San Diego State Student Austin Bice Found Dead in Madrid, Spain

Ten days after he went missing, U.S. foreign exchange student Austin Bice was found dead in a river in Madrid, Spain. The 22-year-old San Diego State University student had been studying abroad in Spain this semester. Bice went missing after a night out on the town with friends, a police official said.

While the cause of this death is still unknown, it does not appear that any foul play was involved. An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday or Wednesday to determine the exact cause of the student’s death.

According to a police official, Bice had been drinking with friends before heading out to a night club in Madrid. When he got to the club, a doorman denied entry for Bice where the student then walked around with a friend before deciding to head back home. After Bice had failed to return back to his apartment that night, his roommates reported him missing and a city wide search began for the student.

Friends and relatives plastered the city with posters of Bice, hoping that anyone would come forward with information of his whereabouts. After several fruitless days of searching, authorities decided to check the Manzanares River where Bice’s body was ultimately found.

Bice, who is from Carlsbad, CA, is described by his father as an athletic, tall, and easy going young man. Students at San Diego State University held a candle light vigil for Bice on Monday, hoping he would return safely.
