On Friday, President Barack Obama sent a public notice to North Korea and Pyongyang to end plans on an upcoming launch. The United States suspects that the launch is of a missile and not of what North Korea claims it to be.
As reported by CNN, at a news conference in Strasbourg, France, President Obama said, “Should North Korea decide to take this action, we will work with all interested parties in the international community to take appropriate steps to let North Korea know that it can’t threaten the safety and security of other countries.”
North Korea has been very negative in its responses as it has been in recent history. The lack of cooperation by North Korea has led to the current state of isolation from the rest of the world community in North Korea.
North Korea claims that the launch is really just a rocket to take a satellite into space for exploration purposes. However, most of the international community, including the United States believe that this is just a step towards furthering the North Korean missile program.
Japan, Russia, China, and South Korea have all been reported as also requesting North Korea to go back on the launch plans. Japan has even gone so far as to prepare its missile defense formation in the event of its need in this threatening situation. North Korea has stated that it will attack Japan or anyone else who shoots down their rocket and disrupts their plans.
Despite all of the demands for the stopping of the launch, no plans have been announced to interrupt the launch or of what would be the result of the launch still taking place.
The goal behind all of the recent talks have been with the purpose to get North Korea to end their nuclear weapons program.
