North Korea Continues Nuclear Weapons Program

On Monday North Korea had a second nuclear bomb test. The United Nations has deemed North Korea’s tests as “clear violations” of the set international laws.

Even China, which is the closest ally of the communist nation, has stated that the nuclear tests have been defiant and against the will of the rest of the free world.

China is looking towards talks that would hopefully lead to the ending of the nuclear weapons program in Korea.

However, in 2008 the communist country agreed to shut down the program in trade for economic aid. Despite reaching an agreement, North Korea shortly there after restarted the program much to the dismay of the rest of the world, including the United States of America.

At the United Nations Security Council meeting, all nations unanimously agreed that an action against North Korea must be taken. The United States Ambassador, Susan Rice stated that the United States government is aiming for “strong measures” to be taken against North Korea.

President Barack Obama addressed the issue as well. He stated that the communist nation “is not only deepening its own isolation, its also inviting stronger international pressure.”

The United States government is seeking to get the six party talks that have been at a stand still to get going again.

Even with all the nuclear threats being felt around the world from North Korea, the reality is that the nation is very much behind in the ability of their weapons. Their missiles do not possess the same range as those of the United States, Russia, or China.

While there is a bit of unease in Japan and South Korea, both nations have faith in the United Nations and that the issue will be resolved in due time.
