Kim Kardashian is known for many things. Music fans know her as the old flame of Ray J, the younger brother of Brandy, who many may remember better as the TV character Moesha. Sports fans know Kardashian as the former girlfriend of the only man to ever vacate the Heisman and a member of the Super Bowl winning New Orleans Saints of last year, Reggie Bush. And television fans know her as the star of the hit E! show, Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s, which follows her and her family throughout their daily lives.
Now, television viewers can now know Kardashian as more than just a TV star, but also as a TV critic as well.
Recent reports indicate that teen pregnancies are rising in the United States. One report said that in one high school in Memphis, Tennessee alone, ninety girls have been pregnant in the last year. The figure represents over twenty percent of the female population of the school.
Kim Kardashian believes that part of the blame should go on MTV.
Kardashian has blasted MTV for glorifying teen pregnancy with programs like “Teen Mom,” where pregnant girls are showcased. She has also made it clear that the girls on these shows should not be seen as role models for the girls of America.
In a recent blog entry, Kardashian wrote, ”I find it so sad and disturbing. It seems that shows like ‘Teen Mom’ are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have become almost like celebrities, but girls, there are not people you should idolize!”
Kardashian also felt sympathy for the girls. She tried to imagine herself in the same shoes as some of the young girls being shown on TV.
She said, “When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. That thought wouldn’t even have entered my head. Having a baby is one of the biggest and most life-changing decisions a person can make, and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do.”
Kardashian then warned young girls to be more cautious and to discuss matters such as teen pregnancy and all that goes with it with “family, friends, (and) teachers.”
